or college students, earning a
degree is certainly the primary
goal. However, some of the most
memorable and meaningful experiences often happen outside the classroom.
Across Maryland, colleges and universities are rethinking the student experience in ways that go beyond academics
– creating opportunities for career exploration, making services easier to navigate and reimagining everyday campus
spaces as places where students can
connect, find support and feel a sense of
belonging.
For finance students at Salisbury
University, a trip to New York City has
become an annual opportunity to see
where a finance degree might take them.
Each spring for more than three
decades, the Financial Management
Association has sponsored this trip for its
student members, where they visit financial institutions and hear directly from
professionals in a variety of roles, many of
whom are Salisbury alumni themselves.
Experiences have included visiting
the trading floor of the New York Stock
Exchange for its opening or closing bell
and meeting executives at companies
including J.P. Morgan, Fox Corp and
Goldman Sachs.
For two full days, students visit these
different sites in the financial district,
attend meetings to learn about the industry, job opportunities, career progression
and professional development and connect with alumni at a networking event.
