Dr. Sarah Johnson Conway
41, vice president,
Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians
Influenced by her parents, who were both physicians, Dr. Sarah Johnson Conway is working to
make sure the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians
is delivering on quality of care in her role as senior
vice president.
“I’m living out the dream that I imagined back
in school,” Conway said.
Conway says that the most important thing
tuning her into the needs of Hopkins’ patients is
the fact that she continues to practice medicine.
“I don’t want to do medicine if it’s going to be
impersonal.” she said. “That kind of defeats the
purpose of being a doctor.”
Before joining Hopkins, Conway studied
economics at Harvard University and went on to
work as an analyst for Goldman Sachs in New York.
She ultimately decided to pursue a medical career
instead. In 2007, Conway began studying at the
University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her
medical degree in 2013.
Conway then went on to complete her residency at the Johns Hopkins University, where she
was the inaugural recipient of the Johns Hopkins
Medicine Health Systems Management Fellowship — a program that she now oversees, which
fosters early career physicians who are interested
in managing health systems.
Now as senior vice president, a position she was
appointed to in May, and as the program director
for the system’s management fellowship, Conway
works to shepherd future leaders in the field of
physical medicine.
“I really am passionate about helping to identify,
mentor and create opportunities for physicians
who want to take on leadership roles,” she said.
