The Maryland legislature
traditionally meets for three
months at the beginning of each
year, and many of the representatives also work in the private
sector. The presiding officers of
each chamber, Senate President
Bill Ferguson and Speaker of
the House Adrienne A. Jones,
are allowed to call the members
back for special sessions.
At the State House, Anne
Arundel County is represented
by 16 delegates and six senators.
Following the 2022 election, 11
delegates are Democrats, and
five are Republicans. Five senators are Democrats and one is
Republican.
More information about the
members and state legislation is
available at mgaleg.maryland.gov.
All 188 members of the Maryland General Assembly and the
entire eight-member U.S. House
delegation will be on the ballot
in 2026.
