Anne Arundel County’s offerings for older adults and adults with disabilities

About 95,842 Anne Arundel County
residents are at least 65 years old,
according to U.S. census data. For this
large population, approximately 16%
of all residents, the county maintains a
number of classes, services and events
through its senior activity centers and
nutrition sites.
The following is an overview of some
of the programs offered:

Department of Aging and Disabilities
South is on the fourth floor of The Heritage Complex, 2666 Riva Road, in Annapolis. Department of Aging and Disabilities
North is in the Harry Hein Public Service
Building at 7320 Ritchie Highway in Glen
Burnie. Both facilities can be reached at
410-222-4257.
Senior Activity Centers and Nutrition
Sites: Senior activity centers provide
educational programs, recreation
opportunities, seminars, and classes.
In addition, there are bus trips, picnics,
card-playing and entertainment.
Each of the eight senior centers in
Anne Arundel County publishes a
monthly newsletter and calendar providing specific information, times and dates
of events and programs. Membership in
senior activity centers is free and available to residents 55 and older. Hours of
operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, except holidays.
Nutrition sites throughout the county
provide meals for adults 60 and older.
Days and times of operation vary. Six
sites are at the county’s senior centers.

Adult Public Guardianship: Provides
court-ordered guardianship services to
residents 65 and older with a physical or
mental disability who have no family or
friends to assume responsibility for medical and personal decisions.
Americans with Disabilities Act Office:
Resource for Anne Arundel County
government programs and facilities that
ensure compliance with the Americans
with Disabilities Act, which became law
in 1990.
Caregiver Support Group: Caregivers
for the elderly or disabled meet twice
monthly virtually to share advice and
provide support. Contact 410-222-4375

Health Insurance Counseling: Provides
health insurance assistance and information to Medicare-eligible persons and
their families.

Maryland Access Point: Offers programs
for older adults, adults with disabilities
and their relatives or caregivers in Anne
Arundel County.
AdultAssessment,Evaluation and Review
Service: Provides nursing and psycho-so-
cial evaluation and makes referrals to
appropriate services to assist functionally
challenged and chronically ill adults to
function as independently as possible. This
program is run through the Anne Arundel
Department of Health. 410-222-4361.
Aging & Disabilities Legal and Financial
Aid: The Law Project provides free legal
assistance, advice and representation on
issues including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, pension benefits,
unemployment, housing, credit and other
civil matters. While services are free,
contributions are welcome.

HousingAssistance: Provides monitoring
and offers technical assistance to assisted-living facilities. The program administers a subsidy to financially and functionally

In-Home Aide Services: A statewide
program that provides assistance from
home aides who can help with personal
care, chores and respite services for older
adults and clients age 18 and older who
have disabilities.
Long-Term Care Bureau: Delivers a
range of services like long-term care case
