t some point in our lives, the odds are we, or someone close to us, will need a
place to go for a short time to recover. It may be for rehabilitation after surgery
or an accident or due to an illness. Whatever the reason, an excellent choice
is FutureCare, offering both short-term subacute rehabilitation and long-term skilled
nursing care, as well as out-patient rehabilitation.
FutureCare is a locally owned and
operated company, celebrating its
40th anniversary this year. It offers 16
locations in the Baltimore-Washington
region. Being a family-owned company,
they are actively involved, and make
sure every location is up to the standards they set, from specialized clinical programs for both in-patient and
out-patient rehabilitation, to the homelike environments for long-term care.

Diane Vernon, vice president of business development, spoke glowingly
about the people with whom she works.
“Our staff prides itself on providing
comprehensive short-stay rehabilitation
services through our VitalStrong programs. The VitalStrong programs were
developed to provide state-of-the-art
clinical and rehabilitation services utilizing progressive technology, with clinical
oversight by a physiatrist, a Doctor of
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
“At each FutureCare center, our
patients are treated by an interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, social
workers, and other professionals, as
well as an attending physician to oversee your care. We also have consulting
specialists who address specific health
concerns, such as cardiologists, wound
doctors, infectious disease experts,
pulmonologists, podiatrists, and more.
We have a consulting doctor for most
clinical issues.
“We work in collaboration with all
the hospitals in the region to help create seamless transitions from acute
care to subacute. This also helps us
to stay on the cutting edge of new
treatments and services. For example,
we offer four ventilator units which
are set up like step-down units for the
hospital, with piped in oxygen and suction, and round-the-clock respiratory
care. We also have nine centers with
in-house dialysis units. These examples of advanced clinical services allow
patients to leave the hospital safely
while continuing care and rehabilitation.
“There are five specialty programs
under VitalStrong designed to meet the
specific needs of the patients in that
program. No matter which program
best meets your individual needs,”
Vernon points out, “you get a personalized clinical pathway starting the
moment you arrive.”

programs offered:
