Learn skills at Home Depot (www.
homedepot.com). One friend took his
kids to Home Depot where they learned
how to do many projects. Here’s a
link for classes for children, and you
do need to register: www.homedepot.com/c/kids-workshop. They take
place the first Saturday of every month.
Check your local store to see what is
being taught.
Marie Kondo’s Organize and
Declutter
When Kondo’s program was introduced, she sold millions of copies of
her book and became a household
name. This class is taught by Kondo:
How to Declutter and Organize Any

Gardening
Here’s a video to get started. Growing
your greens, like spinach and lettuce, is
very simple and your garden will feed
you for months: www.youtube.com/

Once you’ve mastered greens, you
can add cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes and more. One warning: check
your crops regularly. A friend brought
me a zucchini that weighed several
pounds because she was away for a
couple weeks.
You can become a Master Gardener
through the University of Maryland
Extension:

The website lists all kinds of resources
including classes, plant clinics, articles,
and newsletters.
Photography
Today’s smart phones let you become
a photographer without purchasing
additional equipment. You can, however, learn more about how to take a really
good picture depending on what you
are interested in: landscapes, people
or events. It still requires some skill. A
friend taught a class on how to use an
iPhone for great pictures.
Play the Guitar
Places that sell instruments usually
offer classes to learn to play them. They
also sell sheet music so you can learn
your favorite songs. Check with local
schools and colleges that offer music
lessons. Often the professors will take
on private students.
Chuck Levin’s Washington Music
Center (https://chucklevins.com/) in
Wheaton, Maryland, has been around
forever and offers all these services. In
Baltimore, check out Ted’s Musicians
Shop, The Sound Garden and Baltimore
Music Company.
Pottery
Both the Potters Guild of Baltimore
(www.pottersguild.org) and Baltimore
Clayworks (https://baltimoreclayworks.

There are others so you may want to
browse around.
