Anne Arundel County has several law
enforcement bodies that patrol the
streets, including the Anne Arundel
County Police Department and Annapolis Police.
Anne Arundel County voters elect a
sheriff every four years. Everett Sesker,
the current sheriff, is up for reelection in
November. Sesker is the 121st sheriff of
the county and the first Black man to
hold the position.
The sheriff’s office oversees warrants,
a domestic violence unit and court security.
Amal Awad has served as Anne Arundel County’s police chief since 2020.
Awad is the first woman to hold the post
and also the county’s first permanent
chief who is Black.
Annapolis Police, as of publication, did
not have a police chief. Mayor Jared
Littmann fired Chief Edward Jackson in
February. Capt. Amy Miguez is serving as
acting chief as the mayor works to select
Jackson’s replacement.
The Annapolis Police Department has
one station, at 199 Taylor Ave. The county
police department’s headquarters is in
Millersville, at 8495 Veterans Highway,
and there are four stations: Northern District Station at 939 Hammonds Lane in
Brooklyn Park; Southern District Station
at 35 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater; Eastern District Station at 204 Pasadena Road
in Pasadena; and Western District Station
at 8273 Telegraph Road in Odenton.
In emergency situations, call 911 to
reach police officers, firefighters and
emergency medical services. In
nonemergencies, the police departments
can be reached at 410-222-8610 for the
county and 410-268-4141 for the city.
Both Anne Arundel and Annapolis police have specific phone lines to submit
tips anonymously. In Annapolis, tips can
be left in a message to 410-280-2583 or
tell a detective at 410-260-3439. In Anne
Arundel, tips can be left at 410-222-4700.
