Anne Arundel County hospitals earn accolades

Anne Arundel is home to two hospitals, one of which is ranked in the top
five in Maryland, per U.S. News &
World Report’s “Best Hospitals” list for
2025-2026.
University of Maryland Baltimore
Washington Medical Center in Glen
Burnie was named the fifth-highestranking regional hospital on the U.S.
News & World Report list, with 87% of
patients willing to recommend it to others. It has also been ranked in the top
250 hospitals in the country for the
third year in a row.
The center has received several national and state recognitions, including
being rated a 5-star hospital by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
in May, joining a ranking of 12% of hospitals nationwide.
The medical center offers behavioral
healthcare, orthopedics, cancer care,
neurology, heart care, urology, women’s
healthcare and various oncology departments.
The center has 306 hospital beds and
employs 3,242 team members, according to Director of Marketing and Communications Lisa Broadhead. The
Emergency Department team received
73,211 patient visits and 17,473 hospital
admissions in fiscal year 2025.
In that fiscal year, the hospital had an
operating revenue, or income, of $595.4
million, Broadhead said.

located at 301 Hospital Drive in Glen
Burnie.
The 124-year-old Luminis Health
Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis is slightly bigger than the Glen
Burnie hospital, with 430 beds. It employs 3,000 staff, according to media
strategist Justin McLeod.
In fiscal year 2025, the center had
24,000 inpatient admissions, slightly
more than the previous year, McLeod
added. Since the center has over
100,000 emergency room visits each
year, it is considered one of the busiest
emergency departments in the country.
The center received its 15th consecutive “A” rating from Leapfrog for patient
safety. It is the only hospital in Maryland
to achieve straight A’s in every Leapfrog
grading period since 2018, McLeod said.
The medical center offers services
ranging from abuse care to oncology and
pediatrics. Its surgical department is the
hospital’s most staffed department.
The hospital also offers classes, events
and various community resources.
Luminis’ Annapolis location has been
recognized as a Best Maternity Hospital
by U.S. News & World Report, delivering an average of 5,000 babies per year.
The maternity ward offers midwife
births, postpartum mental health
screenings and lactation consultants.
