perform “Legally Blonde Jr,” an adaption of the smash-hit 2001 film, Aug. 16

The Classic Theatre of Maryland,
formerly known as the Annapolis Shakespeare Company, focuses on offering
outdoor Shakespeare each summer
at the Gresham Estate and Reynolds
Tavern. The theater puts on its popular
cabaret shows twice a month featuring
the Unified Jazz Ensemble as its house
band and food from local restaurants.

The Colonial Players selected plays that
span 400 years for their 2023-24 season,
which opens with “Tiny Beautiful
Things,” onstage in Annapolis on Sept.
6-28. Next up is Terence Rattigan’s “The
Winslow Boy,” inspired by an incident
that took place at the Royal Naval College,
Osborne. “A Christmas Carol” returns in
December, and the new year opens with
a production of “Alabama Story,” which,
set during the Civil Rights movement,
tells the story of a controversial children’s
book that features a black rabbit marrying a white rabbit. The season concludes
with “Working — A Musical,” based
on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of
interviews with American workers and
“Bump,” based on the true story of Jorge
Odón and the birthing device he invented

Compass Rose is the only local theater
with an agreement to use equity actors.
The non-profit offers classes and workshops to students of all ages. The 202425 season kicks off in September with
“Intimate Apparel,” a play following
a seamstress as she navigates a world
marked by stark social divides. After
that, two more plays: in October, “Same
Time, Next Year,” a romantic comedy,
and in January, Pulitzer Prize-winning
“Proof.” The season will close with the
musical comedy, “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Ensemble Galilei’s winter solstice
concerts have been a holiday tradition
in Annapolis since 1980. Led by Carolyn
Anderson Surrick, a viola de gamba virtuoso, the ensemble has traveled the world
performing music of the Renaissance and
tunes from the Celtic tradition, mostly on
replica period instruments.

The Kaufman Theater can be found
within Anne Arundel Community
College’s Pascal Center for Performing Arts. The AACC Concert Choir
performs a holiday concert in December. Plus, AACC has a symphony orches-
tra, opera company and jazz ensemble.

national tour of “To Kill A Mockingbird.” The theater is most active over the

St.John’s College’s King William Players’
performances are free to the public and
staged in Mitchell Hall’s Key Auditorium. New shows are announced each
semester. The college also hosts a Friday
Night Lecture and Concert Series that is
free and open to the public. Most Friday

community is welcome at a concert,
lecture or theatrical performance,

Live Arts Maryland is the umbrella orga-
nization for the Annapolis Chorale and
Chamber Chorus, the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Bach+ Consort.

The Talent Machine has been mount-
ing teen and youth theater productions
for more than 30 years. Accomplished
former stars include Broadway veteran
USNA Masqueraders are one of the oldest
college thespian troupes in the U.S. Each
year, the company performs a drama, a
musical and a Midshipmen-directed One
Act Festival. Performances are held at the
Beaux Arts Theater in Mahan Hall. The
fall play will be “R.U.R.,” a 1920 science
fiction play, Nov. 10-11 and 17-18. Highlights of the fall semester music performances include the annual All Saints Day
organ concerts and Handel’s “Messiah.”

2nd Star Productions will mount three
musicals in Bowie this season. First up
is “Sister Act,” a feel-good comedy based
on the hit film, running Oct. 4 – Nov. 2.
“for colored girls who have considered

concludes with a monthlong run of
Sondheim’s “Into The Woods.” 16500
